Harira for New Moms
Ingredients :
Lotus seeds (makhana) - 1 cup (chopped)Coconut (nariyal) - 1/2 cup (grated)
Cashew nuts (kaju) - 20 (chopped)
Almonds (badam) - 30 (chopped)
Raisins (kishmish) - 20 (chopped)
Walnuts (akhrot) - 10 (chopped)
Gond (Edible gum) - 1/2 cup
Pista - 10
Dry dates (chhuhara) - 10

Poppy seeds - 4 tbsp
Charoli (chironji) - 1 tsp
Jaggery (gud) - 1 cup
Desi Ghee - 4 tbsp
Charoli (chironji) - 1 tsp

Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1 tsp
Carom seeds (ajwain) - 1 tsp
Ginger powder (sonth powder) - 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder (haldi powder) - 2 tsp
Fennel seeds (saunf) - 1 tbsp
Green cardamoms (hari elaichi) - 4
Cloves (laung) - 2
Nutmeg (Jaifal) - 1/8 piece
Cinnamon (dalchini) - 1/2 inch piece
Carom seeds (ajwain) - 1 tsp
Ginger powder (sonth powder) - 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder (haldi powder) - 2 tsp
Fennel seeds (saunf) - 1 tbsp
Green cardamoms (hari elaichi) - 4
Cloves (laung) - 2
Nutmeg (Jaifal) - 1/8 piece
Cinnamon (dalchini) - 1/2 inch piece
Method :
1. Soak dry dates and poppy seeds separately in water for 2 hours2. Remove seeds from dry dates and add it to a blender
3. Remove poppy seeds from water and add it to the blender
3. Remove poppy seeds from water and add it to the blender
4. Grind it to a paste.
5. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan
6. Add almond pieces and roast till golden brown
7. Similarly add cashew nuts, walnuts and roast

8. Add gond in batches and roast till it all puffs up and becomes crispy
9. Take it out in a plate and let it cool
10. Add it to a blender and coarsely grind it
11. Now add 1 tbsp ghee and makhana pieces and roast until crispy
12. In a small blender jar add cumin seeds, carom seeds, fennel seeds, green cardamoms, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric powder, ginger powder
13. Grind it to form a powder
14. Now add some water and blend to form a smooth paste
11. Now add 1 tbsp ghee and makhana pieces and roast until crispy
12. In a small blender jar add cumin seeds, carom seeds, fennel seeds, green cardamoms, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric powder, ginger powder
13. Grind it to form a powder
14. Now add some water and blend to form a smooth paste
15. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a kadahi and add the masala paste
16. Add 1/2 cup water in the blender jar and blend again to get all the masala stuck in its blades and inside body. Add this water in the kadahi
17. Now roast this masala till ghee separates
18. Add dates and poppy seeds paste
19. Roast it till it becomes aromatic and changes its colour
20. In another pan add 1 cup jaggery in 1 cup water
21. Heat it till jaggery gets nicely dissolved
22. Add this jaggery syrup in the roasted masala
23. Mix and let it come to a boil
24. Now add roasted almonds, roasted cashews, roasted walnuts, charoli, raisins, pista, coconut, gond powder and mix well
25. Let it cook on medium flame
26. Cook till the syrup is nicely cooked
27. Now add roasted lotus seeds and mix. Adding lotus seeds in the last will let them maintain their body and not get dissolved
28. Cook for a minute and switch off the flame
29. Serve it hot to new mothers and everyone in the family. It is very energetic and very helpful for everyone in winters
30. You can keep it in fridge for a week and use after heating as much required
