Vrat Special Sweet Potato Cutlet




📝 Ingredients for Sweet Potato Fasting Recipe 🍠🌿

  • 🍠 Sweet Potato (medium-sized) – 4

  • 🫚 Ginger (grated) – 1 tsp

  • 🌶️ Green Chilies (finely chopped) – 1/2 tsp

  • 🌾 Water Chestnut Flour / Buckwheat Flour / Amaranth Flour – 2 tbsp

  • 🍋 Amchur Powder – 1/2 tsp

  • 🍋 Lemon Juice – 1 tsp

  • 🌿 Cumin Powder – 1 tsp

  • 🌶️ Red Chili Powder – 1/2 tsp

  • 🌿 Fresh Coriander (finely chopped) – 2 tbsp

  • 🧂 Rock Salt (Sendha Namak) – 1 tsp or to taste

  • 🛢️ Oil – for frying

Method:

🍠 Boil the Sweet Potatoes

  1. Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly and place them in a pressure cooker.

  2. Add enough water to fully cover the sweet potatoes and 1/4 tsp salt.

  3. Pressure cook on medium heat for 3–4 whistles.

  4. Allow the pressure to release naturally, then remove the sweet potatoes and let them cool.

🥣 Mash and Prepare the Mixture

  1. Once cooled, peel the sweet potatoes.

  2. Use a potato masher to mash them well in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Add the following ingredients to the mashed sweet potato:

    • 🌿 Cumin powder

    • 🍋 Amchur powder

    • 🫚 Grated ginger

    • 🌶️ Finely chopped green chili

    • 🌶️ Red chili powder

    • 🍋 Lemon juice

    • 🧂 3/4 tsp rock salt (sendha namak)

    • 🌿 Chopped coriander leaves

  4. Add 2 tbsp of fasting flour (water chestnut, buckwheat, or amaranth flour) and mix everything well until combined.

Shape the Cutlets

  1. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape into medium-sized cutlets, tikkis, or patties.

🍳 Pan-Fry the Cutlets

  1. Heat 2–3 tbsp oil in a pan on medium heat.

  2. Place the cutlets in the pan and pan-fry until both sides are golden brown and crisp.

🍽️ Serve and Enjoy

  1. Serve the crispy sweet potato cutlets hot with your favorite vrat-friendly chutney or enjoy with a cup of tea!
